Think About That!

What a beautiful place.

Do you ever think about your telephone and how it works? No, I mean how it really works? How does our voice travel through this device, to another persons device, so that we can communicate? Now don’t give me the electronics of it, the bits and pieces that go into making the phone like, chips, clips and wires. I mean how the hell do the waves travel clear across the world or even just across the street so that we may talk, view information, text, and listen to music.

We as humans have created amazing things. Wonderful things. Sadly, we have lost our wonder at such creations. I work nights and sometimes we get onto these weird topics, I mean really strange as the dark settles in, and our brains expand into the unknown. At least that is how it feels sometimes when we get sleepy and start talking

Do these waves fly through our tiny little cells as they are moving at the speed of light, or whatever speed they are going, do we even know how fast they are going, or do they zoom around us on the trail to your/my device.

There are millions of radio and television stations around the world sending out data at the speed of light or faster into the homes of people thousands of miles apart. How is that even possible? Really! We can’t see the waves, I don’t feel them going through my body, but we know they are there soaring around undeterred.

I was curious about MRIs and how they worked. I got ran over by a speeding pit bull, that’s another story, and I had to have a MRI of my knee. I went into the room and this machine took pictures of the ligaments, muscle and bones in my leg. How was that even possible?

Energy radiates off of everything

Let me tell you how the MRI works. I am a dos for dummy kind of person so I will give you my version. The MRI machine sends out a huge magnetic wave that sets our protons, our protons, the protons in our body spinning like mad, and then it sends out a radio wave that shuts these buggers down, and when they come to a screeching halt they give off a burst of ENERGY. And then the MRI machine takes pictures of that energy which shows the ligaments, muscles and bones. Read this again because it is truly amazing. It takes pictures of the energy given off by these protons when they come to an abrupt halt. And that energy is caught on film.

Doesn’t that boggle your mind? Doesn’t it astound you? It sure does me. I mean it makes our protons, that we can’t even see spin, spin, and then when they slam to a halt they take a picture of the energy they give off. Dam, I mean who thought of this, and how did they think of this. We are talking about going really deep into the microscopic world, energy waves, and the unknown.

There is so much in our world that begs the question, how the hell does this work, and we don’t even get excited. We just continue talking, texting, shopping, and whatever else it is we do.

We really can’t explain the reality of it. We can talk about the bits and pieces that go into making it possible, but we can’t explain how it really is possible. At least not to my satisfaction.

I say we need to get back to the wonder of what we have created. We need to be amazed at what is around us. Let’s open our eyes to the world, and ask the question how does this even work.

Life amazes me, nature and all its creatures makes me catch my breath, it is so amazing. I say we need to tap into that amazement and appreciate what we have in our lives at this moment in time. Share this wonder with your children and family. Talk about these things so they will begin to wonder too. Foster in the young a curiosity about the world around them. They are the next generation of scientists who will expand on all of our creations thus far.

Instead of sitting in front of the television get them out in the world to look and analyze whats before them. Show them how remarkable this planet earth really is. They will be the saviors of our future. We need to open their eyes to the wonder around them. And as I always say, have a great day today. You and I deserve it.

Wow!
